Bayfront Blues Festival

1998 Bayfront Blues Festival Program

The Ninth Annual Bayfront Blues Festival

Dave “Snaker” Ray plays six and twelve string guitars, knocking out the houserocking boogies, up-beat rags, funky New Orleans rhythms and down-home country blues that have kept him in demand for nearly forty years. Dave Ray, with his partners “Spider” John Koerner and Tony “Little Sun” Glover, formed the legendary trio of Koerner, Ray and Glover in the early 1960’s where they were a driving force in the folk music revival. This influential trio recorded five albums for Elektra that featured an intriguing mix of string-band, ragtime and country blues. Their rowdy enthusiasm and musical talent breathed new life into the traditional material they were performing. During the 70’s and 80s, Dave Ray occasionally reunited with Koerner and Glover for special shows and recordings. The Minnesota Music Academy named them Best Folk Group and elected them to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, along with Prince and Bob Dylan. Ray and Glover have maintained an active performing partnership over the years with a steady Thursday night show at the Times Bar & Grill in Minneapolis that is in its seventh year. Dave Ray has come back into the spotlight recently with the reissue of the landmark Koerner, Ray & Glover album “Blues, Rag & Hollers.” The Trio also reunited in 1996 for their first recording in thirty-five years with the critically acclaimed “One Foot In The Groove.” Catch one of Minnesota’s living guitar legends Saturday night on the Bayfront Boogie Train.
